how many pounds of fat did you burn while running in 2010?

0.63 x your weight = number of calories burned because of running per mile (ncbbr)

ncbbr x number of miles ran in 2010 = number of calories burned because of running in 2010 (ncb'10)

ncb'10 / 3500 = how many pounds of fat you burned this year

*canadiens/kilogram-users: multiple your pounds by 0.4535 to convert to kg

(3500 = appx. number of calories in a pound of fat)

my calculations said i ran off 67+ pounds of so far this year. that's pretty disgusting to think about. seeing as how i've roughly "maintained" the same weight all year that means i've eaten 67 lbs of fat throughout the year... gross.

hello eye-opener. good bye m&m's.

off for a 1,936mile run to burn some fat. i ate too many christmas cookies. and blueberry cheesecake.

(formula from runner's world)

Interesting math.. Ive only been running since October..

ReplyDeleteI came up with 3.3 for mine which is somewhat accurate but I have actually lost more weight than that since running.. Im sure I just gained it all back yesterday though!

I'm not sure how many miles I ran I already deleted my Garmin.. doh! I want to forget 2010!

ReplyDeleteThat's pretty interesting...maybe I don't want to know the answer! Hope you had a great Christmas!

ReplyDeleteI actually am 10 lbs heavier year end than year start so I'm off for a 25,690 mile run today! See ya sometime in 2017.

ReplyDeletePoor M&M's :(

All we need is a picture off 67 pounds of fat to drive this home. For now I have twice as far as Jill to run so I'm off. Hope you had a Merry Christmas!

ReplyDeleteoy. mine says 14lbs. and since I am relatively at the same weight I was at this time last year due to a back injury eh I guess it's ok. Just another reminder to try to stay injury free in 2011 and eat better!

ReplyDeleteInteresting... my calories burned for 2010 is 153742 using your calculation. However, I have 170,836 according to my Garmin data.

ReplyDeleteTotal calories burned for all activities (swim, bike, run) is roughly 491,326 which would be an astonishing 140lbs. And that doesn't even include strength workouts. Yikes.

Computes a loss of 21.5 lbs and that is fairly accurate.

ReplyDeleteI did start the year much heavier than I am today so I am liking this math.

Only problem is if I keep up this pace I will weight less than a middle-school female gymnast by the end of next year.

Ha! I got 58 (based on your formulas), which means if I hadn't apparently eaten back all those calories, I would weigh about 100 pounds now... Which I have no desire to do, BUT it would be nice if 10 or so of those pounds had stayed burned off! ;) Thanks for the exercise in frustration! :)

ReplyDeleteGG what would I look like if I didn't run! Crazy!

ReplyDeleteBurning off the fat I consume is why I run, so I can consume at will :)

ReplyDeletei'm not doing this because i like to be ignorant ;)

ReplyDeleteSo you probably know that when you run for 1 hour and your Garmin said you burned say 500cals, you need to substract about 100 or so, because you would have burned those calories just sitting around. Also, after you;ve been running for a while, your metabolism becomes more efficient, and you burn less calories than when you initially started running. For weight loss, eating is more important than exercise. For weight maintenance, exercise is super important:)

ReplyDeleteGah!

ReplyDeleteGreat fat baby pic. Hope you had a great Christmas!

This is awesome! I will post my findings the first week of 2011!

ReplyDeleteMine came out to 8.17lbs...too bad I ate too much junk all year so I didn't really lose those 8lbs. Boo!!

ReplyDeleteThat baby is scary!! LOL

ReplyDeleteEnjoy your run..

I'm with Joyrun. I run so I can eat what I want and not add it to my rear LOL. Since I'm the same weight as last year, looks like I ran and ate 29 pounds worth. ;o)

ReplyDeleteIt wasn't much of a running year for me so I burned 13.5 pounds of fat, which is sad considering I'm ending 2010 with a 10 pound weight gain. Gross!

ReplyDeleteHa ha! That baby sums it up. I think I saw him on You Tube smoking a cigarette....

ReplyDeleteUmmm-fortunately I was injured so I only ate about 50 extra pounds of fat to maintain my weight!

Have fun on that 1936 mile ultramarathon!

Way to ruin a good holiday season by making us do "our" math and become disgustingly disgusted!

ReplyDeleteThat's just wrong....

ReplyDeletebut it's good that we maintained, I suppose...

20.475. I've lost about 20lbs since running, but I'm not sure it was all fat. I can hope though!!

ReplyDeleteI'm usually pretty good at math, but I just can't get this equation to work out right. I had to take the derivative and then integrate it to the 4th power. AHA! If I run 234,430 miles through 2021, my weight will be JUST RIGHT! Perfect!

ReplyDeleteI'm sitting here reading running blogs and eating Christmas candy. I have holiday M&Ms too. I'm not sure if I gained weight over the holidays because I'm too scared to weight myself. :)

ReplyDeleteOk, I was a total slacker this year... I only burned 4.7 pounds of fat this year. But still, ew!

ReplyDeleteMark was just looking over my shoulder and said "Holy Shit, what is with that fat baby? Please tell me it's a joke and not somebody posting their kid." bahahahaha

ReplyDeleteJust think of how fat we would be if we weren't running!!! EWWWW.

P.S. Mark wants to know why you always pick on him in my comments. :P
