five for friday

hello world! just checking in with a few random things on this fine friday.

i am still alive. i'm still reading all your blogs in my google reader, but lately i've been feeling a little down, athletically-speaking. it's disheartening to read about all the great workouts / races / pr's you are all achieving and in my funk i've slacked on commenting. i'm sulking in the corner.

i've really been missing running lately. i look longingly at the sidewalk while driving on the roads i used to run. i do still make fun of people for being way overdressed though. it'll be 50+ degrees out and runners are dressed like it's 20.

a couple weekends ago we went to look at old stuff. we're cultured like that. specifically, it was an exhibit of old biblical artifacts that belong to the green family (who founded hobby lobby). it was interesting to see the really old stuff, paper made from calf skin, and to read about some of the history and travels behind some of the pieces (surviving the nazi's and what not).

photos weren't allowed, so here's a rendition.

i had a skin biopsy done yesterday and received my first stitch. they're expediting the testing/results instead of making me wait the standard "2 weeks". should have some answers on monday.

when it rains, it pours. this past monday i had an allergic reaction to something in my lunch. i think it was the mustard. everything on my sandwich was exactly the same as one i ate last week except it had mustard this time. i used to tolerate mustard just fine, but i guess something changed. my lips swelled up and i rushed over to walgreen's for some benadryl (took two). about two hours later the swelling finally started to go down just as the drowsiness hit full force. i groggily drove myself home from work early and passed out on the couch around 4pm.

i was sporting a pretty attractive look for a few hours at work. duck lips are cool these days right? everyone is making them in their facebook photos...

  1. Oh girl. You just don't get a break. Now here's for hoping, that you get some good news Monday!

  2. I was just thinking about you yesterday. Realized I hadn't seen a post from you in a while. Too busy looking at old things to keep us updated I suppose. That allergic reaction is crazy! You kind of look like some of the ladies on real housewives. Glad it wasn't anything too serious - unless you have an addiction to mustard and then that might be a real downer... :)

  3. Hey! There are people who would pay big money for lips like that. :)

Teasing - I am sorry you can't catch a break. I think what you need is a vacation to the mountains (like Heidi!) I could provide all sorts of entertainment, good food, and laughs to cheer you up. Hugs my friend!!!

  5. Put some red liptsick on and you're Angelina! Sorry you had a reaction. (It made me think of Will Smith in that scene from Hitch.) I have a friend who has celiac disease and is allergic a lot of other types of foods, too, like dairy and beef. I can't even imagine. Hang in there. :)

I am so sorry you're dealing with so much garbage. I hope you get some solid answers on Monday so you can start feeling your best.

  7. Good luck with the skin thing. I've had two things removed at the age of 26, but fortunately neither were cancerous. Still, my mom had malignant melanoma, so it's definitely scary.

OMG on runners dressed like it's 20 when it's 50... the other day I was out running in a dri-fit shirt and shorts and almost everyone I passed was wearing sweats. SWEATS. It was about 50ish. And I'm really cold natured, you think it would be the other way around.

I miss your blogs and your comments, too!

  10. Sorry for that allergic reaction! That just plain sucks! I hope it helped that I got nowhere near a PR in my recent race. I did it for you! Glad to hear from you but get that it his hard to read and comment when you can't do it.

  15. I was gonna make the same Angelina Jolie comment, but figured that'd be cliche. So, I'll say this instead: STEP. AWAY. FROM. THE. MUSTARD.

  20. Yeah, my 2011 crap year has definitely carried over to 2012 as well...this all blows. Sorry for the mustard attack-that's not fun, I get the same result with penicillin!
I would say "hang tough"...but I'm having a hard time doing that myself!

  21. I am keeping my fingers crossed that you get some answers soon. I have to say, you are an amazing person! I admire you for staying strong and keeping your sense of humor intact. Hang in there, you will be running stronger than ever soon.

  22. i understand how hard it is to blog or comment when everyone seems to be running and you aren't. been there done that. barely back on the other side.

  25. Sorry that you're feeling down and all-around crummy. :( I don't even have anything constructive to offer. M&Ms might help, but I assume you are still sugar-free. (go girl)

Those swollen lips are a good look. People pay for that, you know!

I hope the biopsy is all clear.

  26. People pay to get big puffy lips like that. It's fashionable.
